Free School Meals

What are Free School Meals?

Free School Meals are provided by the Government to children whose parents or carers are on a low income and benefits to have a healthy meal whilst at schools.
The Free School Meal can be either a hot or cold meal depending on the caterer, and these meals have to follow the Nutrient Standards set by Government to ensure they are healthy.

Free School Meals for Northamptonshire are administered by Northamptonshire County Council.

Am I eligible?

If you are in receipt of one of the following benefits and your son/daughter goes to a Northamptonshire School you can apply to Northamptonshire County Council for Free School Meals.

Income Support
Income Based Job Seekers Allowance
Child Tax Credit Only (maximum income of £14,495) – you must NOT be in receipt of Working Tax Credit
National Asylum Seekers Support
Guarantee Element of State Pension Credit

If you are eligible for Free School Meals you may be eligible for Free School Transport.
