Snack Suggestions

Below are some ideas for healthy snacks.  Make sure you give snacks half way roughly half way between meals.  If you allow snacks too near a main meal, you risk not eating an important meal. 

  • Raw fruit and/or vegetables cut into sticks or chunks
  • Hard boiled eggs
  • Fingers of toast, or mini pitta breads spread with cream cheese or mackerel pate
  • Cubes of cheese
  • Homemade popcorn or vegetable crisps (avoid fatty, buttery, or sugary sauces!)
  • small portion of vegetable soup and a chunk of bread
  • Plain yoghurt or fromage frais with added chopped fruit or fruit puree

 

Carrot dippers with a cheese and chive dip

Fresh carrots are full of flavour when they are in season.  They are great raw with a dip.

 

Hummus

Hummus makes a tasty snake either as a dip or sandwich filling.  It can also be spelt houmus or hommos and are also correct.
